Take control

Whilst I started my business back in February, I've actually been supporting businesses and charities, particularly with social media, since 2012.

In the 8 years that have passed, one problem I have been brought in to solve more often than anything else is to sort management once a colleague or freelancer has left.

When it comes to your social media and online presence, whether you outsource or have an internal colleague, it is crucial to have layers of ownership.

When setting up a new client on social media or any online platform, I always provide a back-up login that the client has full access to (even if they never use it to log in). If a business owner doesn't have Facebook I'll even create an empty account that simply gives access to the business page as admin for future role assignment.

This ultimately means that if I was to run off to Barbados and never return (one can dream), or the business relationship took an unfortunate turn for the worst from the behaviour of either party, there is no reliance on someone taking the moral high ground or risk a hard earnt reputation taking a hit.

As a business owner, your website, social media accounts, and other online pages are essential, valuable assets. Yes, it is vital to trust the person you are relying on, but nobody knows what will happen tomorrow. So, have a Plan B, know your login details and you will always have control of your business' online reputation.
